When Distribution Becomes Part of the Product
Growth is not simply about generating more demand; it is about being discovered across more ecosystems, converting attention with less friction, and delivering on the demand created.
Growth can come through events, partnerships, procurement, marketplaces, referrals, local networks, creators, physical presence, search, communities, and direct sales—not only digital advertising.
Mission Signal
Distribution is becoming part of the product.
The next strategic question is not where to post. It is where a market already gathers, buys, recommends, compares, and makes decisions—and how a business establishes a useful presence there.
Market Intelligence
Distribution deserves strategy again.
What happened: Fortune’s Gary Shapiro argues that companies can squander trade-show opportunities without planning, while strategic exhibitors define objectives, select shows and prospects, train staff, and measure results.
Why it matters: A trade show, partnership, referral network, marketplace, or local event can be a business-development system.
Opportunity: Identify where the market already gathers, buys, recommends, compares, and makes decisions—then build a deliberate route to show up there.
Shorter creative works when the idea is strong.
What happened: Research reported by Sungkyunkwan University found that short-form micro ads of 10 seconds or less increased website visits in the five minutes after exposure compared with longer ads.
Why it matters: The message must carry strategic density from the opening seconds.
Opportunity: Test whether a customer can quickly understand who a message is for, what problem it solves, why it matters, and what to do next.
Convenience is moving from advantage to expectation.
What happened: Walmart’s planned acquisition of Vibe.co is an example of media and commerce systems converging.
Why it matters: Every unnecessary step adds a small tax to demand.
Opportunity: Audit the path from ad to landing page, offer, contact, appointment, payment, and follow-up—then remove friction that adds no confidence.
Mission Action
Map your five growth channels.
Identify where new customers currently come from: Search, Paid, Referral, Ecosystem, and Owned. If more than 60–70% depends on one channel, the business has identified a strategic vulnerability.
QTAST Thought
